Charles Beauregard

From BluWiki

(97 FS - ) Raised across the oceans as a sailor, Charles Beauregard found his way to the port city of Darvin and immediately made it his home. Within only a few years, he had gathered a few ships and enough followers to make him a respectable business leader in the city. His meteoric rise was fettered only by the competition of his rival, Faudpierre LaChante. Even with this competition, Beauregard and his rival were the two principal powers in Darvin by the time he reached his 30s. The two competing moguls kept the city in check, each with his fleet of merchants and pirates bringing trade goods in and out.

In the early 130s FS, as the tension between the mercantile Figaro family was building with the rest of Altair, both Beauregard and LaChante offered their support in hopes of gaining financial dominance. Shortly before the Figaro secession, Beauregard had dealings with Ghaleon Ebonheart and his fellows, for a ship and crew on one instance and for the expedition of the secession on the other. Beauregard did not specify nor inquire as to the method of this expedition.

The secession did not go as planned. The Figaro leaders pledged their support for Beauregard, but they quickly reneged in light of the events to come. With the Treaty of Five Swords in shambles, Altair fell with relative ease to the onslaught of the Fire Legion. Thousands of refugees fled to Darvin, overcrowding the city and inhibiting trade. As famine and riots ravaged the city, both Beauregard and LaChante sought a solution, as well as a way to blame the other.

Beauregard found the former, or so he thought, in the Dogs of War. These Vrojk worshipers offered to serve as a mercenary police force and brutally enforced the will of Beauregard, at least in name. They quickly drove LaChante out of town, and the Figaro contingent retreated to their new capital of Port Rameau. Beauregard became little more than a figurehead, and the Dogs of War abused the citizens.

In 136 FS, Redbeard, one of his pirate captians, brought Ceralin de Roisin, Oleron Lethos, and Aldaren Sterenfeuer before Beauregard. They proved canny and capable warriors, defeating the Dogs of War champions of the gladiatorial arena that had become such a staple pastime for the people of Darvin. They represented to him a glimmer of hope for a return to the old ways, hope that Beauregard continues to pursue.

Beauregard signed the Treaty of Altair in 136 FS, representing the interests of Darvin. Throughout his tenure he struggled to rein in the Dogs of War, but when they finally withdrew from the city in 138 FS, the situation got worse. Left without most of his fighting force, Beauregard was unable to defend against LaChante's Faulken-powered offensive. He was banished following his defeat, and his current wherabouts are unknown.
