The Wavecrest Archipelago, a three-island group that together are the largest Western state with a population exceeding 250,000. The largest of its islands, Abalone, is the largest island in the West and, along with the other two islands of Wavecrest, have wide tracts of arable land and a mild, verdant climate which frees them from any dependency on the ocean to survive making Wavecrest the breadbasket of Western Ocean. The islands are also studded with a number of volcanoes - the largest of which is Hamoji, on Abalone - which are often surrounded by Wyld Zones.
As a satrapy of the Realm, Anathema are unwelcome.
The greatest surprise to visitors of Wavecrest is usually the large proportion of women in the population of the islands. The Wavecrest islanders believe in the superiority of women in land-based industries so the majority of blacksmiths, farmers, merchants and so forth are woman while men dominate sailors and fishermen.
Wavecrest has a small navy, quite sufficient to deal with pirates and raiders. Its greatest danger comes from Wyld beasts coming to the populated regions of the islands from their Wyld zones and huge sea beasts adn water elementals that rise up from the ocean.
Wavecrest is a democratic culture that is ruled by an elected president who is called the Feathered One because of an ancient cape associated with the office that confers wisdom, honesty and forethought to anyone who wears it according to local legend. The Feathered One is aided by a council of preistesses adn the mayors of the cities of the archipelago, but his greatest duty is preserving harmony and appeasing the volcano gods. This appeasment is generally in the form of live sacrifices in the form of any convicts currently imprisoned for what ever crime they were charged with (because of this, justice in Wavecrest is harsh, punishing any crime greater than public rudeness with imprisonment). If this initial sacrifice fail to appease the volcano gods, the Feathered One himself is the ultimate sacrifice.
