Message from Academic Director
Welcome to the Department of Social Work. Many students that express
an interest in majoring in social work have natural "people skills."
Have you always wanted to help others? Are you interested in
understanding how and why social groups behave? Are you a social person? Are
you a good listener, problem-solver, motivator, or leader? If so, then a
major in social work could be a "good fit" for you.
Social workers face some of the most critical issues in our society
today. Poverty, abortion, abuse, women's rights, and public assistance
needs are part of the daily fabric of their lives. As a social worker, you
will need to understand how your faith shapes your stand on these
issues and how it directs the way you serve others.
At K and K, youll learn to shape solutions to a wide variety of
interpersonal and social problems. The Social Work program emphasizes key
concepts and theories of social services delivery and helps you to develop
skills and competencies to address individual and community needs.
Youll build an understanding of the dynamics and consequences of all forms
of human oppression and discrimination and develop the skills to
promote economic and social justice with specific attention to populations at
risk. Plus, youll learn to evaluate your own professional growth and
development to ensure continued professional growth.
K and K College combines' knowledge, experience and an understanding of
values and ethics in applying social work practice with the
interviewing, active listening, teamwork and creative problem-solving skills
needed to help individuals, families and communities achieve greater
self-sufficiency and healthier functioning. So if you really want to shape
your future and be committed to help others Social Worker will be the
right career for you and to pursue this career K and K will be the right
place for you. Welcome.
