Course Description
LAT 100A is the first half of what is effectively a two-term unit, the second half of which is LAT 100B. Taken together, these two courses will give you vocabulary and a broad overview of Latin grammar.
Tips
- You must practice regularly, or else sentences will look increasingly cryptic as the term progresses. This is by far not merely an issue of vocabulary, but an issue of recognizing the roles of words in a sentence by analyzing the word endings. These inflected endings are extremely important, as they often make individual words' meanings explicit enough so that the order of words in a sentence can change freely.
Resources
- Wheelock's Latin Ch. 1-15 Vocabulary
- This is an Excel spreadsheet containing the vocabulary taken from the first fifteen chapters of "Wheelock's Latin". Each row contains the Latin word, part-of-speech with some grammatical details, English translation, and English derivations. Note that nouns, adjectives, and verbs are not inflected beyond what is listed, and that most pronouns do not appear in the list.
