Lepida

From BluWiki

(? - 136 FS) Known to some as the Lady of the Forest, Lepida is the ancient spirit ruler of the forested Wilderness that borders the realms of Altair. Little is known about the entity, who often manifests in the form of a humanoid female with butterfly wings. However, it is known that she is a being of great power and a friend to the fey. Her primary goal is the protection of her vast Wilderness and its denizens.

Ghaleon Ebonheart, Malcolm, and Soirse discovered her enmity with Thraxis the ice devil when they were contractually bound to defeat her. They sought to circumvent their respective contracts with mixed results and never met Lepida in their time together. After the conflict between the Dogs of War and the Seekers of the Star, however, Soirse entered the Wilderness and formed an alliance with Lepida.

Following the Battle of Altair and the Fire Legion conquest, the ravaged elven population rereated to the Wilderness once their leaders, the Regai family, had been wiped out. They currently make their home in Lepida's domain, though the Eladrin Liberation Front is working to supplant them, hoping to return to their ancestral home. Lepida has voiced her opposition to this movement, continuing to protect all those under her rule.

Once William Mordhen ascended to godhood, Lepida revealed her true history to Ceralin de Roisin, Aldaren Sterenfeuer, and Oleron Lethos. She was one of a primeval race called the Ancients. The gods, too, were members of this race that existed long before even the dragons. There occurred a great civil war among them, and the present-day gods emerged victorious, banishing their vanquished kin to the Far Realms. Lepida expended most of her power to form one of the great seals that keeps them imprisoned, and in order to prevent another war guards it to this day. When Mordhen broke three of the four seals, Lepida used the last remnant of her power to restore them, sacrificing herself in the process. Without her influence, the Wilderness will eventually recede from its present vastness, becoming a mundane forest. After her death, Soirse took on the mantle of protector of the Wilderness, working to preserve it for as long as she can.
