Oleron Lethos

From BluWiki

(64 FS - ) Oleron was born in the elven Regai district of Altair, son of Andiron Lethos. Andiron and his brother, Zephiron Lethos, had long suspected that they were of a different stock than the Regai nobles. They noticed that a significant minority of elves exhibited a series of common traits that differentiated them from greater elven society: larger, scintillating irises, a faint metallic glimmer in the hair, a penchant for the arcane, and, in some cases, the manifestation of mysterious powers. In his position as an upper-level secretary in the Regai administration, Andiron took the liberty of perusing the secret royal records of the family. His suspicions were confirmed. Genealogies he discovered labeled individuals generations back as "eldar" or "eladrin" throughout these texts.

Oleron was born with his father's curiosity and raised with a strong sense of pride in his heritage, even before his father's discovery in 71 FS. Hand hie and his kin kept their separate racial identity quiet while the Treaty of Five Swords held, not wishing to disturb their favored place with the Regai family, but in the late 120s FS, Andiron and Zephiron began holding secret meetings of the Society of Eladrin. In 132 FS, Oleron was dispatched by his father on the first real investigative mission for the Society, which had at that point evolved into the underground radical separatist movement known as the Eladrin Liberaton Front. Oleron was only told to travel to the near planes and find evidence of the origin of the Eladrin. Unsure of his exact task, he wandered the lands of Altair for two years, returning to the city occasionally to report to his father.

In 134 FS, Oleron woke up one night after an especially disturbing dream about three travelers. Driven by a mysterious conviction, he left Altair that night, heading north. He walked ceaselessly, forgoing his nightly trance and growing tired and worn. He pressed on nonetheless, and on the third night he caught sight of his quarry. He found them camped only about one half mile from his position: a young woman, likely a druid, traveling with a wolf; an imposing man with long black hair and a cunning, hateful glare; and a dwarf with unusually dark skin, clad in earth tones, with the bearing of a prince. He did not know at the time that he followed Soirse and Fenrir, Ghaleon Ebonheart, and Malcolm. That night, Oleron witnessed several cloaked figures fall on the party and incapacitate them, one wielding a strange and disturbing brand of magic. He did not intervene, fearing his own capture and wishing to see the outcome. As the leader activated a magical armlet that opened a brief planar rift, Oleron somehow followed him by sheer force of will or destiny.

When he awoke, the young eladrin found himself in a strange world where reality seemed constantly twisting. Dominated by an undulating, silver tower in the west and a frozen, shadowy mountain in the east, the Cusp remained Oleron's home for the next year. His mind adjusted to the place, affecting his capacity for compassion and his world view, but he survived. When the Dogs of War and the Seekers of the Star had their climactic battle, the entire fabric of the Sea of Stars was disrupted, and the Cusp was thrown into chaos. Rifts opened and closed in seconds, and Oleron was drawn into one of these.

He found himself in a mysterious building, undeniably magical but somehow familiar in its construction. His caretaker, Zephyria, appeared somewhat younger than he, but bore similar characteristics. Her eyes seemed to be globes of scintillating blues and silvers, her hair was golden, and she carried herself with an otherworldly grace. Suddenly, Oleron realized he had found his goal. Zephyria was an eladrin. For an indeterminate period of time, she trained him in the ways of magic. The apprentice had manifested some arcane power in his time on the Cusp, but Zephyria taught him to manage and channel it through magical words and gestures. Oleron learned a unique brand of magic and became an adept wizard. His tutor refused to divulge any information other than that she and Oleron were somewhere in Faerie, the fey realm parallel to Primus. When his training was complete, Oleron was returned to the lands of Altair.

He returned in 135 FS, and Altair was not as he had left it. Fleeing the Fire Legion occupied city, Oleron made his way to Haven, where he studied under Relena and served as a magician to earn his keep. There he met Ceralin de Roisin and Aldaren Sterenfeuer, and on the day of their summons before Sir Malchet, Oleron eagerly accepted the mission to help cure his mentor of the plague she had contracted. Their sortie was a success, and the three adventurers continued to quest together, helping the citizens of Altair with various problems that arose. However, one such citizen, Fob the Miller, held a deadly secret. He asked the group to deliver some flour to a remote location at night. The conditions were suspicious, and the party investigated the sacks but was unable to find any cause for alarm. They delivered the flour as requested, unaware of the maps of Haven and its stronghold drawn inside the sacks. This led to the tragic destruction of the refugee village.

Though Oleron and his fellows fought bravely at the stronghold, they were desperately outnumbered and were forced to retreat. Some fled by boat, carried to the secret Resistance hideout by Faudpierre LaChante, while others retreated through the teleportation circle created by Oleron and Relena. Ceralin and Cyrus, however, were captured. Upon their arrival at the headquarters in the ruins of Riverbend, Oleron and Aldaren were commissioned by Kathryn Peacecraft, a high-ranking officer in the Resistance, to liberate Ceralin and the other prisoners from the slave-processing camp at which they were held. The mission was a success, though poor intelligence caused many casualties and Cyrus was nowhere to be found. The heroes were reunited, but the road ahead was not easy.

Word had spread about their involvement in the massacre at Haven, and whispers of treason circulated. William Mordhen, one of the leaders of the Resistance, sent the adventurers on an errand to get them away from headquarters until the fervor died down. They retrieved for him a mysterious orb, and on their way back were apprehended by Redbeard, one of Charles Beauregard's pirate captains. They were forced to fight in a gladiatorial arena before an armor and mask-clad Ghaleon Ebonheart, leader of the Dogs of War. They emerged victorious and were returned to the hideout by Beauregard. Mordhen had miscalculated the magnitude of the accusations leveled against the adventurers, however, and they were arrested upon their return. Oleron, Ceralin, and Aldaren stood trial and were convicted conditionally, agreeing to perform a mission for the Resistance in exchange for acquittal.

Their court-mandated mission was one of preparation. The heroes sneaked into Altair, and Oleron performed a magical ritual on a strategically essential bridge, preparing it to collapse upon the utterance of a specific command word. They also gathered information on Leshrak the Fierce by observing him in his obsidian tower. Finally, Oleron and Aldaren agreed to perform a secret mission for Mordhen, the assassination of Maximilian Grobak, current head of the traitorous Gro-Bannor family. Through the use of their magic and Aldaren's way with words, the pair was able to conduct the termination quickly and quietly. Ceralin refused to participate because she found the act dishonorable.

Returning successful, the heroes split paths to help prepare for a major Resistance operation set to take place very soon thereafter. Ceralin and Aldaren went with Kathryn to free Cyrus from the sulfur mine where he was being forced to work, while Oleron traveled north to entreat the aid of the dwarves in the coming battle. He met with [[Bruno], leader of Ironcamp, the de facto capital of the dwarven territories, and through the promise of sovereignty and territory after the battle was won, the dwarf was convinced to send aid. The dwarves went to fight at Rivermeet, the diversion attack designed to draw the attention of A-Zaruk from Altair. Oleron, Ceralin, and Aldaren went to the city.

The three adventurers, along with Olan, an elven cleric who had helped them previously, infiltrated Altair. Oleron activated the ritual he had previously prepared, trapping most of the guard on the far side of the river as he and his compatriots ascended the obsidian tower and confronted Leshrak. The battle was fierce, and Oleron made a tactical choice that cost Olan his life, but the heroes emerged victorious. Leshrak fell just as the Catastrophe occurred at Rivermeet, unmaking the city and destroying A-Zaruk.

After reuniting with his uncle at the Altair summit, Oleron served as a delegate for the Eladrin Liberation Front during negotiations over the Treaty of Altair. He was offered an ambassadorship to the Free Dwarven States but declined in order to spend time with his father and uncle in their eladrin refuge.

Oleron traveled to Darvin in search of a means of transit to the Fey Wilds. There he met Cale Ulrich, posing as Ghaleon Ebonheart and struck a deal. He swore a blood oath to serve the lord of the Dogs of War, and in return he was directed to the Bard, a merchant who would know how he could acquire the means of transit he sought. His service to Cale was primarily fulfilled as a messenger, carrying correspondence between the Dogs of War and their dwarven counterpart, the Iron Brotherhood. This culminated in the creation of a teleportation circle in the Forbidden Mine, deep in dwarven territory, to facilitate transit between the two groups.

In the trading village of Nomad's Rest, Oleron met another of his kind, Taleris, who entreated his help to return to the Fey Wilds. He readily agreed and took the wayward eladrin to Taraneen to meet Andiron and Zephiron. Taleris requested that Oleron and his family seek out a magical gem that would facilitate his return, and they set out to find it on a remote island.

With the gem in hand, Taleris led Oleron, along with Ceralin and Aldaren, into the Shadow Realms en route to Faerie. There they encountered a traveling worshiper of Sileril, Felix Zephyr, who joined them on their journey. Upon reaching the Fey Wilds, however, the treachery of Taleris was revealed. He only sought his return so he could join with his allies, known as the Malari, to bring death to Faerie in a sordid effort to maintain balance. However, he was grateful for the help of the adventurers, so he sent them away from his tower unmolested.

After some searching, Oleron's instincts led him to the hidden city of the true Eladrin. It was there, from High Bralani Alagar and High Ghaele Illendra, that he learned the truth about his ancestry. He and his kin held but a few drops of Eladrin blood within their otherwise elven bodies. Though he was shocked by the revelation, Oleron eventually accepted the news. Illendra admonished him for his carelessness in bringing Taleris back to Faerie and demanded he rectify his mistake by either killing or banishing the renegade Bralani. Oleron accepted the task and was awarded the Blessing of the Plants by Alagar, imbuing him with power he would need to defeat his former friend.

Oleron proved to be more loyal to his old benefactor than to his new ones, however. When he confronted Taleris alongside his fellows, he was met with a decision: follow the lord of the Malari or heed the errand of the Eladrin. He chose the former, forsaking Alagar's blessings as he was imbued with the favor of Taleris. His new master promised him a place in Faerie for his people and sent him and the other adventurers back to Primus to gather them. Upon his arrival at Taraneen, Oleron presented tidings that divided the community. Andiron sided with Taleris, while Zephiron sought to join the elves of the Wilderness. The eladrin divided themselves between the two, with Ceralin and Aldaren joining Zephiron's smaller faction. Felix remained alongside Oleron and Andiron to see what lay ahead.

After he returned to Primus, Oleron traveled with Ceralin to find Erebus and reforge Cardiclast. Once the task was completed, the time had finally arrived for him to return with his people to the Fey Wilds. Once there, he joined Taleris at his right hand to help him prepare for conflict with the forces of Alagar and Illendra. An elite group of eladrin adventurers led by Zephyria made their way into Taleris' deadwood palace and sought to defeat him. With Oleron by his side, however, Taleris defeated the interlopers.

After returning briefly to Priums, Oleron began to reconsider his decision to serve the Malari. Acquiring Malcolm's planar armlet after defeating him, the adventurers ventured to the Realm of the Fey. There they confronted and defeated Taleris and the warriors he reanimated to defend himself. Despite his repentant acts, Oleron was not forgiven by Alagar and Illendra, though they did spare his life in exchange for banishment from the Fey Wilds. Though his family remains in the realm, Oleron may never return to the land he considered his home.
