Orrin Bannock

From BluWiki

(98 FS - 134 FS) A native of Altair from birth, Orrin was of no noble blood. His father was an alchemist by trade, and he instilled in Orrin an early appreciation for the magic inherent in everyday things. But Orrin's mind fixed on more lofty and abstract pursuits. He became fascinated with the elements - earth, water, air, and fire - and their interactions. When this no longer interested him, he sought the more obscure truths of these forces, and he sought to understand the nature of those who ruled them. His research was groundbreaking, and he learned to draw power from the ancient texts he perused to protect himself as he traveled the worlds seeking ever more elusive secrets. On these travels, he incurred the enmity of a noble salamander named Yrkoon, though how he did so remains a mystery.

After years of searching, Orrin found the nexus of his passion. He had learned, as had all children, that Vivec, god of magic had died long ago and his spirit brought arcane magic to the world, but when Orrin began to examine the true nature of the arcane, he discovered secrets about the dead god that no mortal had known for eons. He delved deeper into this subject with an obsessive passion, and many of his noble patrons dismissed his research as a madman's prattle and denied him his funding. This forced the charming but eccentric scholar to take on pupils, and this is how he became mentor to Soirse and Ezekiel.

In 133 FS, as he was returning from a quest for more secret documents of Vivec, Orrin was waylaid by Yrkoon and his minions. Fortunately, Ghaleon Ebonheart, Malcolm, and Soirse arrived to rescue him from a fiery death. Hearing of their nigh-impossible obligation to Thraxis, it was Orrin who suggested the outrageous plan of resurrecting Vivec to nullify the contract. He traveled with the group for a few months, but he was killed while scaling an ancient tower in the ocean which held a portal to the realm that housed Draconis. When the party was attacked by an undead octopus, it snared Orrin and dragged him beneath the waves, never to surface again.

Though he met his fate in a most grizzly fashion, Orrin's legacy continued after his death. Shortly thereafter, Soirse was contacted by the Seekers of the Star, a secret society dedicated to the worship of Vivec, a group of which she discovered Orrin was a member. She was inducted in his stead and given a mystic ring rumored to have belonged to the god of magic himself. This marked the beginning of the true quest for the resurrection of Vivec.
