Description
As Rebound: Rebound stands a little over six feet tall in a form fitting uniform that leaves his lanky form on display. The costume is rather pedestrian, seeming to prefer function over form. It's blue in color, alternating with dark blue for the arms and on the thighs of the suit. The mask covers his scalp completely, but leaves the lower half of his face uncovered. He wears a pair of large goggles over his eyes. He's also got a belt on with a couple of pockets and pouches on it.
As Alex: Alex stands a little over six feet tall with a lanky build. Clearly he's of high school age. He seems fairly light of his feet, hinting at him being beyond his adolescent clumsy phase. He's got brown hair and matching eyes, and a pale complexion that hasn't seen a lot of sun. His face is dominated by a pair of reading glasses with heavy black plastic frames that might cause one to think of Clark Kent. Behind those glasses, his eyes are alert and keenly observing his surroundings. On the surface, Alex's appearance might seem a bit nerdy, but he carries himself with an air of confidence and self-assurance.
Background
Alex was born on May 29th, 2038 to Alan and Norma Winters who were both researchers in the field of high-energy physics and power systems. In the late 2030s they worked for Universal Power Systems on an experimental reactor that tapped into an alternate dimension. This project was scrapped in the early 2040s due to UPS's inability to stabilize the interface. Energy spikes exposed Norma to mutagenic radiation, causing Alex and his two brothers to be born with mutations and birth defects. Alex was perhaps the most fortunate -- his mutation, the super-elastic cellular structure, did not manifest until he was thirteen years old. His younger brother, Caleb, was born blind, autistic, and with albinism. His youngest brother, Scott, was also born autistic. UPS refused to acknowledge responsibility, so the Winters sued. UPS fired and blackballed them. They moved out to the country, where Norma worked as a power tech and Alan as a physics teacher. They home-schooled Scott and Caleb with great difficulty, while Alex went to school.
Growing up, Alex's life was punctuated by a series of losses. First, his brother Caleb died when Alex was around 9. It wouldn't be until later that he'd discover that Caleb was still alive, kidnapped by Dr. Furmano. When Alex was fourteen, his mother passed away, succumbing to a rare form of cancer induced by exposure to the experimental reactor. Soon afterwards, his father passed away as well. His promise to his father on his death bed was to take care of Scott. Alex's strategy for coping with all the losses in his family was to bury himself in his work and focus on the minutia of his day to day routine. He's become a bit of a workaholic, finding his studies to be a good way to avoid facing the emotional burdens of the deaths in his family. The question of why bad things happen to innocent people is still a fundamental question he has about life if general.
Alex's powers manifested when he was 13. He ran out into the street to push Scott out of the way of an oncoming car. Instead, the car struck Alex, and he bounced away from the impact, unhurt. Alex's parents decided to keep his mutation a secret -- they figured that his family life was difficult enough without having every one know about his weird powers. In private, they encouraged him to explore his abilities. Rebound was born shortly after Alex's sixteenth birthday, on the first anniversary of his dad's death. Being a superhero seemed to make sense to Alex as a way to fix a world that he was angry with for taking his parents.
Recently, Alex has been reunited with Caleb. It's been a sort of second chance for them to be together, and Alex plans on taking full advantage. Just before the reunion, the courts awarded Alex and his brothers $30 million dollars in the civil case between UPS and his parents. His share is $10 million dollars, set in a trust until his 21st birthday, with the sizeable interest as an allowance.
Powers
Alex was born with the ability to stretch his body, like Mr. Fantastic of the Fantastic Four. He also possesses a genius-level intellect. He has used his smarts to invent a special costume: with a press of a button he can instantly switch from his street clothes to his hero clothes.
Personality
Alex fancies himself as being smarter and more mature than most of his teenaged peers, and generally, he is. He's a workaholic and sometimes he disappears into his work and studies for long periods of time, to the detriment of his personal relationships.
Relations
Alex has two younger brothers: Caleb ( AKA Midnight ) and Scott. In his civilian identity, he works for Starguard Gamma and attends Colonial Heights High School. His ex-girlfriend Phillippa was a cheerleader there. He's currently in a long distance relationship with Mariko.
History
Alex first appeared around January of 2056 as one of student who had been attending Colonial Heights High School all along.
