Sir Gareth Ebonheart

(96 FS - 138 FS) Gareth is the elder son of Lord Dyne Ebonheart and the brother of Ghaleon Ebonheart. When his father was slain by members of the Shadow Veil, he followed in his footsteps and enlisted in the United Guard of Altair. He served there diligently for years, becoming acquainted with Sir Valentine and Relena. When Ezekiel came to the city from his home in Westerwale, he was eager to join Sir Gareth's group, and with his divine prowess, he was an easy fit. In times of peace, he led his group across the countryside surrounding Altair performing heroic deeds for the townsfolk.
In 133 FS, when the Fire Legion's raids expanded in their scope and scale, Sir Gareth stood on the front lines to beat them back. He fought in and survived the Battle of Altair and became an influential member of the underground Resistance against Fire Legion rule. Always favoring honor, he challenged General Taargus, leader of the Fire Legion occupation, to a duel. Though he defeated him, the legionnaires are not known for their honor, and they fell on Gareth and slew him after the duel. He was resurrected one month later following a raid on Fire Legion coffers by Sir Valentine and rest of his group in order to obtain the necessary materials.
Sir Gareth had a tumultuous relationship with his brother Ghaleon. The two never held the same world view after their father's death. While Ghaleon favored vengeance almost obsessively, Gareth sought to fill the positions his father once held. Though they disagreed, the brothers respected their family ties, but those ties were broken when Ghaleon slew Sir Valentine in a duel. Seeking vengeance for his fallen friend and justice for his brother, Sir Gareth and his companions joined the confrontation between the followers of Vrojk and those seeking to resurrect Vivec on the side of Soirse. With his help, Ghaleon and Malcolm were driven away.
In 135 FS, Sir Gareth rejoined with Zeke and Relena as well as Soirse and Malcolm in an effort to confront and finally defeat his brother. The coalition found him attempting to harness an ancient and unknown power source to break his contract with Thraxis the ice devil. A fierce battle ensued, resulting in the death of Zeke, but in the end Ghaleon fell.
Sir Gareth went on to resume his post in the Resistance, serving as one of its leaders. He fought in the Battle of Rivermeet and bore witness to both the terrible majesty of A-Zaruk and the incomprehensible wonder of the astronomical catastrophe that briefly summoned an alien being of incredible power to Primus, a being that erased Rivermeet and A-Zaruk from existence.
Gareth served for approximately one and a half years on the Council of Altair as the commander-in-chief of its armed forces. He governed wisely alongside William Mordhen and Kerrick, and later Relena when Kerrick abdicated his post. Always a brave warrior, Sir Gareth led the reinforcements at the Battle of the Wilderness, where he fought Thraxis in hand-to-hand combat and was struck down. He is survived by Cyrus, who replaced him on the Council.
