Sir Malchet

From BluWiki

(92 FS - 136 FS) The only son of an immigrant family to Altair, Sir Malchet grew up admiring the United Guardsmen and aspiring to a military career. He was tall, with a muscular build and dark skin, and his skill in battle and tactics was developed early. The warrior rarely ever spoke of the past, keeping his thoughts to the present and future. It is for this reason that no one knows of his homeland or the time before his family relocated to Altair in 98 FS.

As a teenager, Malchet began his training to be a United Guardsman. By the time he was 15, he was esquired to one of the leading knights in the Order of the Five Swords. He was inducted into both the Guard and the Order at 18, and rose quickly through the ranks despite his lack of noble breeding. As a commander and a warrior, his primary strategy was concentrating an overwhelming advantage on a single point and exploiting the weakness he created there.

In 134 FS, after the secession of the Figaro family from the Treaty of Five Swords, the Fire Legion laid siege to Altair. Malchet's classic tactic proved effective as he directed archers and catapults to direct their fire on key enemy groups. But even his skill could not help the disjointed remnants of the United Guard hold back the flood of Fire Legion troops through the city gates opened by the treacherous Gro-Bannor. Sir Malchet survived the battle, leading the refugees southward and away from their captured home.

In late 134, the haggard band founded Haven, a decentralized village near the ruins of Westerwale and the edge of the Wilderness. Malchet served as its leader, draconian but unwaveringly dedicated to the safety of the villagers. In 136 FS, he met Ceralin de Roisin, Oleron Lethos, and Aldaren Sterenfeur when he sent them an ultimatum: find a cure for Relena's plague or see her exiled.

His great defensive plan, the Stronghold at Haven, was undermined by sabotage at what came to be known as the massacre of Haven. As the walls collapsed, Sir Malchet saw his favored tactic turn against him as Fire Legion zealots threw themselves into one segment of the defensive line. The warrior was slain in that battle, but he died defending those he cared for, those he loved.
