Becoming a director
- Most directors start of as actors and find that they have the ability to coordinate a show and work well with others.
- Many directors receive training at colleges and universities that offer specific training programs in that field
- Directors, like actors, must often times work for free or for very little money in order to make a living in their chosen profession
The Auteur Director
�is involved with many aspects of a play or film. This may include:
- Writing
- Producing
- Designing
- Construction
- Choreography
- Performing
Auteur Directors often tell the story from their own point of view rather than the writer�s and will often times alter the text to serve their own purpose.
The Director�s Job
- Examine the text, study it, and understand it as much as possible before they start the production. Find out what motivates the play.
- Develop a directorial concept.
- Hire a design crew (sometimes).
- Hold auditions and cast the actors.
- Hold production meetings with the designers and crew.
- Begin rehearsing.
