About Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS) and this Website
TMS stands for Tension myositis syndrome, a term coined by Dr. John Sarno, Professor of Clinical Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University School of Medicine, and attending physician at the Howard A. Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine at New York University Medical Center. Dr. Sarno created this term to describe a cohort of his patients who presented with severe and incurable pain (often back pain), which he discovered to be truly psychosomatic, or mind body disorders. Dr. Sarno and his colleagues have since helped countless people recover from debilitating pain that had formerly ruled their lives.

Helping out
This website was created by people whose lives have been changed by the discovery that they have TMS and who want to share what they've learned with others. It was founded on the notion of "paying it forward." If you feel like you have been helped by this website (or other free TMS help on the internet), you can "pay it forward" by adding to the website to make it even better for future readers. It's really easy to do. In the upper right hand corner of every page, there is a button that looks like this,
, but with a navy blue background. If you click it, you can add your own input to the page (that button is what makes this a "wiki"). Before you do that, though, click here if you have no prior experience with anything like this (and the whole idea of editing a website makes you nervous) or here if you are an old hand at editing wikis.
