[edit] The Relics

Standing nearly 20' tall, each immense cross is made out of a material that appears impervious to harm; many alchemists have used every method possible to gather a sample for analysis but nothing has worked. It radiates power and indeed the magic flowing through it is so powerful that people are not allowed to touch it for fear it may kill them instantly. The cross depicts the Pantheon of Gods and, most peculiarly, seems to update itself; in recorded history the cross has gained two new symbols and communication with the gods has confirmed that two swelled their number but no more details have been gleaned than this. [edit] Symbology

The Crosses were made by the Atlanteans and used primarily for communication and transport, although they may also have been used to exert a dominative force over the local populations.

They serve as a primer for the story of the Dorgon Cosmogeny, which can be interpreted from the glyphs and symbols on the face of each Cross.

Comment: Are the glyphs easily recognisable as pictures or symbols of the titans and gods, or are they in undecipherable Atlantean? --Daigoro 04:36, 16 June 2007 (EDT)

The cross consists of four large circles at the four points, with a rosette of seven circles in the centre.

  1. The Titans- These are the 4 circles around the outside. They are circumscribed by a thin circle, the top half of which is bright while the bottom half is dark, representing the astral and sub-astral planes.
    1. Gil: the top circle
    2. Dorgon: the left circle
    3. Ravis: the right circle
    4. Gamus: the bottom circle
  2. The Seven Races of Mankind- These are represented by the rosette in the centre. The Seventh Race of Mankind is actually at the top of the rosette.
  3. The Gods- The space between the outside circle and the inner rosette is filled with a complicated pattern of concentric circles and tree-diagrams.
    1. The High Gods: the outermost circle in the top half
    2. The Low Gods: the outermost circle in the lower half

[edit] Religious Impact

Some religions worship the Crosses while others revile them as blasphemy, as the Crosses presume to show the ineffable meaning of the cosmos or otherwise purport to place the supremacy of their particular gods at the bottom of a hierarchy.

[edit] Locations

[edit] High Temple on Dominia Gratis

(under construction) Isolated from all nations by a barrier that physically repels invaders this temple is said to mark one of the inter-dimensional gateways and indeed recent investigation found 27 leylines interlinking directly in the centre of the temple under The Dominion Cross, a truly ancient relic that emanates immense power. Magic flows freely and powerfully in this place and indeed many people only discover their magical abilities when making a pilgrimage to the temple. The temple and its grounds are truly independent on any nation and, protected by the powerful magics of the cross, they often fail to become involved in anything that affects the outside world.Matuku 17:03, 15 June 2007 (EDT)

[edit] Buried Cross in Asaguni

Some 50 miles from the capital there is a monastery at the top of a low mountain. The mountain itself is called a sacred place and is off-limits to visitors. The main temple building of the monastery is built around a Dominion Cross which is buried in the face of a cliff-side, with only the top quarter of the round face of the Cross exposed.

The task of the monks is not to study or understand the Cross, but instead to keep knowledge of it secret as it is feared that the knowledge it may provide would be dangerous to the supremacy of the Empress. It is also protected because of its power to grant magic abilities to otherwise normal people who had come near it, so visitors are kept as far away as possible.

[edit] Shattered Cross of Nuleeria

Asaguni explorers and traders have been coming to Nuleeria for decades, but usually their visits are rare due to the difficulty of the crossing. One of the Nuleerian princes holds a powerful relic, a shattered piece of the Dominion Cross, about a foot long, which one of the Asaguni explorers was once allowed to glimpse. His description, reports and sketches of the relic have raised the interest of certain knowlegeable individuals in Asaguni, who recognise the markings as similar to the Buried Cross, and they are trying to send military detachments to the area to find out more.
