Why did you create a page consisting only of a a request to delete it? — "Bear" 13:44, 16 January 2006 (EST)
- What do you mean, "why"? Isn't it obvious that I made a mistake? While you're so busy being condescending, do something useful and protect the page that I requested in the first place. "Blackfolk"
I'm sorry if you feel condescended to; but only a little. You asked that a page be deleted and the circumstances were peculiar; I felt it wise to follow up before taking action. It is not obvious that you made a mistake; it takes a rather deliberate series of keystrokes to transclude the deletion request template {{pd}} onto a page that does not yet exist. If you say it was a mistake, fine; but this is why we talk: to learn.
I have no idea how you requested that Blackfolk be protected. I see no message on my talk page, nor on Talk:Blackfolk. However, as you wish, so shall it be done.
I'd like to take this opportunity to recall a conversation I had with a very dear friend some years ago. Although she and I have identical pale skins, she identifies herself as black, whereas I do not. (I don't particularly like to be called white, either; I think of the shade as being closer to pink.) We had a very small dispute, a simple matter between friends -- perhaps I was late to a meeting.
I apologized for my error and went into a fairly long explanation of what I had done and why. My friend (aware of my feelings about race) commented that although I might not believe in black and white races, there was certainly such a think as black culture. She noted that in her (black) culture, a long explanation of the type I'd just given was an admission of guilt or insecurity. Of course, in my culture, it may be anything from good manners to a minor waste of time to explain oneself thoroughly.
I mention this little story to underline a few personal characteristics. First, I'm glad to know all the good people in this world and I couldn't care less what color their skins may be or who they think they are. Second, I think all race labels are foolish nonsense, although I agree that there is a great variety of human subcultures. Third, I like to discuss things openly, sometimes at great length. Fourth, I am not subject to intimidation, particularly of the cringing white liberal groveling for political correctness being browbeaten by righteous indignation type. I'm here to help, that's all.

I'm sleepy and therefore, will ignore the parts of your post that insinuate that I'm speaking to you in a less-than-cheerful tone because you're white (I assume) and should cower before me and my Angry Black Womanness. Can't say I'll do the same twelve hours from now, though.
The page is now protected...and I, the creator of the page, cannot edit it. Please tell me I'm missing something in my insomnia. rattlerbrat 04:48, 17 January 2006 (EST)
- Wiki pages -- particularly, MediaWiki pages -- exist in one of two states. They are either protected, in which case they cannot be edited by anyone without sysop privs (and we should have very good reasons for doing so); or they are not, in which case anyone can edit them.
- You asked that I protect the page in question; I did. If you're still unsatisfied with my performance as Janitor, you may wish to discuss the matter with our Chef.
- I'm never sleepy and I take some personal pleasure in not ignoring anyone's attempt to bully me; be assured that I do not inspect anyone's skin before taking offense. As a civilized person, I try to be polite to everyone; but I don't particularly like everyone. Perhaps I have grown to like some and love a few, but I greet strangers with a wary eye. At my age, I am delighted to find a person who tries to bully me without even the slightest bit of leverage over my life, my liberty, my paycheck, my residence, my meals, my motor vehicle record, my credit rating, or my utilities. I consider it a ray of sunshine when I have the rare opportunity to stand here and say exactly what I think, secure in the knowledge that your every effort to bend, spindle, mutilate, or simply lose my file must fail. — "Bear" 07:40, 21 January 2006 (EST)
(looking around) Who's bullying you? I asked about a protected page. You've mentioned that either the pages are protected or they're not, and that's all I need to know. As long as I can copy the source, I can move elsewhere. And I'm happy to, since you seem to have some strange problem with swinging at shadows and creating e-beef. But hey, whatever makes you feel like a big shot. rattlerbrat 07:46, 21 January 2006 (EST)
