Vivec

From BluWiki

Portfolio: Magic, Knowledge, Scholarship

Son of Arigon and Layla and twin brother of Vrojk, he served as the god of magic during the early ages of Primus. He and his brother were very different, however, and a feud began between them. When Vrojk started using mortals as his pawns in the rivalry, Vivec began to intervene with his magic, and this drove the war god to extreme measures. He crafted the dread sword Draconis, which was taken up by his servant Kaine against Vivec. An epic clash ensued, but the god of magic was slain with the blade, which was cleft in two by the release of divine power. This release caused magic to disperse all over Primus, allowing mortals to take up the wizardly profession for the first time.

Upon his death, Vivec's essence indwelt a young boy. That boy grew into a man and exhibited nigh miraculous arcane powers and enjoyed unusual longevity. When he died, the essence moved to another mortal, and so it went until it inhabited a dragon named Antares. By a twist of fate, Soirse found herself in a contract with Thraxis the ice devil and sought Vivec as her way out. Her friend and mentor, Orrin Bannock, was a member of the Seekers of the Star, the last remaining cult of the magic god.

Soirse, along with Ghaleon Ebonheart and Malcolm, underwent an arduous quest to resurrect the deity, a quest ending in her betrayal by her fellows. Ghaleon, a servant of Vrojk, had reunited Draconis and tried to turn the ancient blade on Antares. His efforts were thwarted by a combination of the Seekers of the Star and a second betrayal, this time by Malcolm. The heir of Ogrimmach was using a magical amulet to imprison Vivec's essence. By the time the tide had turned, he had stolen over half of this stuff of gods. Fleeing the battle, Malcolm disrupted Soirse's resurrection ritual. By the battle's end, only enough of Vivec's power was summoned to free Soirse from her infernal contract and to indwell her, the new keeper of the essence.

After an attempted ascension by Thraxis the Ice Devil was thwarted by Oleron Lethos, Ceralin de Roisin, Cyrus Ebonheart, Aldaren Sterenfeuer, Felix Zephyr, and William Mordhen, Mordhen used the captured essence to ascend to divinity himself. Driven to madness by his newfound power and the beings beyond the stars, he attempted to breach the barrier between Primus and the Far Realms. He was thwarted by the heroes and slain by Ceralin de Roisin wielding a perfected Cardiclast. After his death, Kerrick took on the mantle of Vivec, allowing the old god of magic finally to rise again.
