WarRealms Wiki

This is a placeholder wiki for the WarRealms community effort. WarRealms is a zombie-project, as in a project that was left to die years ago and is now being resurrected. The idea is to gather artistic/programming/design talent to create a full, open MMO engine and client and build a Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game on top of it.

The project wiki is hosted here at bluwiki.com. There is also a forum at freeforums.org wich is in brazilian portuguese (being that most team members are native brazilians). The forum's joint-admins e-mail is warrealms ( at ) gmail ( dot ) com. Any questions regarding the project can be directed to that address or to the Random section of the forum (other sections are registered-users-only).

Team Members

As of now, the only official and registered team members are Eduardo and Jimmy. Others who weren't on the original team have been invited and anyone's contribution is welcome as well.

Original Project Status

When last revised, the WarRealms project comprised a long list of text files and a proof-of-concept alpha-build client, both of wich have been rendered completely obsolete by time itself and the releases of such titles as Lineage 2, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars and Ragnark Online. But the general idea remains the same and will comprise the embrio of the new project.

New Project Guidelines

  • Create a platform-agnostic protocol capable of withstanding at least one thousand clients-per-server load.
  • Determine if the server application should be platform-agnostic or fixed to a single platform (or to some platforms).
  • Write a server application (or modular server applications) comprised of a multi-dimensional item/user/NPC database, a tri-dimensional map database, a script interpreter, a client-server connection manager and wichever other modules the team sees as essential for a MMO engine.
  • Write a platform-agnostic client (or several clients for different platforms) capable of connecting to the server application making use of the protocol created by the team. The client application should be able to render a tri-dimensional realm in real-time, as well as interpreting scripts locally and dealing with server-side scripting.
  • Create a 'Realm' comprised of a background story, geography, bestiary, armory and such and creating the corresponding art, models and scripting to populate such 'Realm'
  • Write a set of 'quests' that describe one (or many) loosely-defined 'path(s) to enlightenment' the 'denizens' of such 'Realm' should follow.

These topics (and others) will be discussed at the project's forum before being posted here, leaving the wiki as a repository for conclusions of the forum discussions.
