Construction Overview

From BluWiki

Construction The basic 18” model should be assembled in a specific order, since once the boat is 3D, especially with the bottom permanently attached, it’s extremely difficult to clamp, screw, or glue certain bits together, especially parts involving the bulkheads.

I recommend this order of construction:

1. Purchase plywood at hardware store; have the store cut your plywood for you (Lowes in my town will do this for free) – I call this Macro cutting

2. Do Micro cutting – Cut the curved sides from a fresh sheet of plywood, cut notches in the bulkheads so that they will clear the internal chine logs, cut holes in bulkheads for access ports to be installed

3. Attach chine logs to the sides, bow, stern transoms, bow and stern bulkheads with glue and screws, design and firmly secure the mast step and partner to the bow bulkhead

4. Attach the Stern, then bow bulkheads to the sides of the boat. By doing the stern first, you’ll work out any issues you had so that the bow bulkhead, which receives significantly more strain due to the mast, is attached properly :).

5. Attach the transoms, and deck plates, and you’re now ready to apply for a hull number.
