The Philosopher-King and Anvil Queen
Centuries ago, the appellation of "Philosopher-King" may have been more apropriate for the rulers of Gavonais, but in recent times it has become very much an affectation. The role of philosophising as a tool of state has devolved to the post of the Philosopher Royale, a still respected adviser to the king, who also heads the King's Academie Philosophique.
Likewise, the traditional title of Anvil Queen is founded in the ancient role of the queen as a symbolic forger of the steely bonds between king, people and church. In the past, forging rituals were enacted out by the queen hammering metal chains at a real forge and anvil, but modern rituals have only retained the symbolic form of this.
